Mariatu Tu Browne is the Founder and Chair of The Browne Foundation and Tu Organics Beauty Academy, institutions dedicated to empowering underserved communities through sustainable beauty education and entrepreneurship. Her inspiring journey from adversity to leadership has shaped her mission to transform lives and foster resilience.

In 2003, Mariatu overcame significant personal challenges, including escaping an abusive relationship, to pursue a career in cosmetology. Enrolling in John Peri Beauty College in California, she demonstrated unwavering determination by self-funding her education and excelling in her field. Driven by a passion for education and sustainability, Mariatu launched Tu Organics Salon and Spa in Rancho Cucamonga in 2016. This milestone established the city's first Green Beauty Salon, earning her recognition from the City of Rancho Cucamonga for her environmental commitment. Mariatu has also taught cosmetology at Riverside City College and Small Business Management at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). Her impact extended to her alma mater, Chaffey College, where she was honored as Alumni of the Year in 2022 and now serves as an Adjunct Professor of Business in the Business and Technology Department. In 2024, Mariatu founded Tu Organics Beauty Academy and The Browne Foundation to create pathways for underserved individuals, particularly survivors of domestic violence. Through programs like "Take My Hand and Let Me Lead You to Entrepreneurship," she combines vocational training with business acumen, empowering students to achieve financial independence. Her commitment to innovation and excellence continues as she pursues her doctoral studies at the University of La Verne. Mariatu’s efforts have not only educated hundreds but have also championed sustainable practices, partnering with organizations like Green Circle Salons to promote eco-friendly solutions in the beauty industry.
